On 14 May 2015 Archbishop Samuel J. Aquila of Denver announced his decision to restore the order of the Sacrament of Initiation to the original order of Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist in his Archdiocese for all Catholics baptized before the age of seven. This means the Archdiocese of Denver will celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation and First Eucharist in third grade. One of his reasons for doing this is, as he said, "In an increasingly secular world, the reality is this: The souls of our children are the battleground." With the declining number of Christians in this country and around the world and the need to re-evangelize and re-catechize many of our current Catholics in this world of “anything goes and is okay”, the fact remains—the sooner we give the gifts of the Holy Spirit to our member, the stronger the church will become.
The Liturgy requires many ministers. This week I wish to focus on the ministry of the Usher and Hospitality Ministers. We are in need of some additional Ushers and Hospitality Ministers as there are times and some Masses when we are short or missing Ushers and/or Hospitality Ministers. If you know of anyone who would make a good Usher and/or Hospitality Ministers, please ask them to volunteer using the form inside this bulletin.
Today is the solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ. Jesus was obedient to the Father and suffered death on the cross. But before he did this, Jesus established and sealed the New Covenant. The Lord shed his blood for us so that we could have hope of eternal redemption. During the Last Supper, Christ spoke of the blood of the covenant. We are reminded of this covenant every time we gather to celebrate the Liturgy of the Eucharist. In addition, we are to do all we can to remain worthy to receive Holy Communion.
Pray for the consecration of Russia to Mary by the pope.
May God bless you.
